Eco.
Eco-Schools is an international award programme which encourages schools to be sustainable, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.
Children are the driving force behind Eco-Schools – they lead the eco-committee and help carry out an audit to assess the environmental performance of their school. Through consultation with the rest of the school and the wider community it is the pupils that decide which environmental themes they want to address and how they are going to do it. Measuring and monitoring is an integral part of the Eco-Schools programme, providing schools with all the evidence they need to really shout about their environmental success.

At Parkside we fully embrace the Eco Schools ethos and we are working hard to gain our Green Flag status. Last academic year we made great progress towards this award. We held a very successful Eco week where all children took part in environmental workshops. Pupils calculated their carbon footprint and found out about changes they can make to reduce it. We were also visited by environmental artists and story tellers.
An important addition to our school grounds is an allotment area and greenhouse. Pupils have been growing vegetables and learning about the environmental advantages of ‘growing your own’.
This year sustainability will continue to be an important consideration in our school. We are about to elect our Eco committee who will carry out an environmental review and decide on the themes we want to address this year.
Pupils can also join the gardening and Eco club which regularly during lunch times and after school.
