The spring gardening show was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to learn about
sustainability and show case their design and gardening skills.
It was a creative curriculum project which involved pupils through out the school. The
initial design and research was carried out by our KS2 pupils. The garden looked at
the human impact on the environment now and in the years ahead. Its theme was to
reduce, re-use and recycle for a sustainable future and a unique greenhouse made,
by students, from 2,500 plastic bottles, provided an inspirational centre-piece.
The greenhouse was built by a group of year 8 pupils as part of a construction project
working alongside BAM. The striking boundary was created by mural panels worked
in plastic bottle tops which were constructed by our art club. Our pupils worked hard
in our allotments to grow plants and we also visited Webbs of Wychbold who
contributed some of the plants and much appreciated support and advice.
The aim of the garden was to inspire show visitors to recycle their own waste at
home. We had a fantastic positive response from members of the public and pupils
were on hand to explain their ideas and contributions to the project.
We hope to exhibit another garden next year.
