Key Stage 2 French.
In Key Stage 2, we aim to build on the language skills taught in the first schools and work on these so all the children are confident in their French speaking, as well as an understanding of how the language works.
Our aims:
provide and encourage enjoyment in learning French which will develop the pupil's ability and the desire to use French effectively for purposes of practical communication.
encourage positive attitudes to learning languages, to speakers of modern foreign languages and a sympatheticapproach to other countries and civilisations. we offer insights into the culture and civilisation of the countries where French is spoken and use authentic materials to develop cultural and linguistic awareness, this helps to develop pupil's understanding of themselves and their own culture.
Extra-curricular opportunities:
We are fortunate to be taking part in a "partnership scheme" organised by the county, in which schools in Worcestershire are "partnered" with schools in the Champagne region of France. Our partner school is in the village of Colombey les Deux Eglises, the language teacher from that school has already visited us and we are planning work that pupils from both schools will share in, including a Powerpoint presentation of Parkside and its surroundings. This is a very exciting scheme and we hope that the pupils from both schools will gain a great deal from it.
In July 2009 we held a French day, all lessons had a French theme which was fun for both pupils and staff!! Work on the day ranged from learning about French scientists, impressionist painters and the French revolution to singing French songs and playing bingo!
Mary Glasgow magazines are available in all years and pupils subscribe to these magazines which are used to promote language learning.
So, French isn' all about learning lists of words and how to conjugate verbs. At Parkside, we aim to make it a positive experience and, yes, sometimes fun too!!!
