Key Stage 3 PE.

The PE department aims to provide all pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum. We offer each pupil an opportunity to experience invasion games such as Football, Netball, Tag Rugby and Hockey. Also included in our curriculum are: Creative sports gymnastics and dance, Striking and fielding games; Cricket and Rounders and also Net and wall games including Tennis.

With the introduction of the new framework for Key Stage 3, the pupils are now influential in the decision on which sports are delivered both during curricular and extra curricular time. Using information collected from questionnaires, that pupils complete, we aim to offer non traditional sports such as Ultimate Frisbee, Boxing, Salsa, dodgeball and Golf.

As part of the requirements for Key Stage 3, we enable pupils to develop coaching and leadership skills through PE, by providing them with the opportunity to officiate games, lead warm ups and offer constructive feedback to their peers.

We also run a nationally recognised qualification for young sports leaders. This involves training the pupils to organise and deliver sporting activities for younger pupils, and also supporting with festivals, sports days and officiating at tournaments.

As a department we aim to provide High Quality PE lessons throughout all activity areas. We involve external coaches and outside agencies to facilitate the learning of pupils during both curriculum time and after school. We have developed strong community club links in and around Bromsgrove, for example with Worcester Warriors RFC due to our strong partnership; we have established exit routes for pupils identified as gifted and talented.

Parkside is also part of the North Worcestershire Schools Sports Partnership and as a result we have a designated School Sports Co-ordinator. The role of the Co-ordinator is to; liaise with Primary Link Teachers from first schools within the cluster and high School. We aim to ensure PE and school sport is central to the curriculum as well as the social and physical development of young people. This is achieved through participation in various festivals, events and competitions throughout the school year, also facilitating schemes such as the young sports leader award and playground to podium.
